Today is the 232nd birthday of America! I am so grateful for the Founding Fathers and all they did for our country and independence. They were such great men chosen by God to form this great country. Growing up, being patriotic was a big part of our family. My did even wrote a book about the founding fathers called FOUNDING FATHERS- UNCOMMON HEROES.
It’s been 6 months, yes folks, that’s right, 6 LONG months since I have had any chocolate. No, I’m not crazy or on any kind of insane no chocolate diet. I’ve been staying away from chocolate because of my nursing baby. He turns into “The Hulk” when I eat chocolate or anything that resembles chocolate. But yesterday I cheated. I blame it on Kevin. We were at the store yesterday when we saw Pop Rocks Chocolate bar.
Kevin bought it half way because of the nostalgia and half way because of curiosity. I had every intention not to eat it. I was so used to not eating chocolate by now that it was even a temptation. But Kevin took a bite and got a huge smile on his face and said, “Wendi, you gotta try this.” I looked at him like he was the devil. He knew that I couldn’t eat chocolate and what would happen if I did. “Wendi, you gotta try it!” he kept insisting. And you guessed it, I gave in and tried it. It was very tasty and kind of fun to eat. I have never eaten chocolate that pops before. But I felt so guilty. I felt like I was sinning and needed to go tell the bishop what I have just done. I felt like I was the wrorse mother ever. Now my baby would suffer the next day for I tiny bite of popping chocolate that I ate.
To my surprise and shock and complete and utter happiness, my glutony has not had any effect on Garrett today! Is it a fluke or can I finally indulge in chocolate again?!?! I guess I better go eat a brownie and make sure that my no chocolate hell is finally over! Or maybe I’ll try a chocalte shake or chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, or a chocolate chip cookie or an Oreo cookie or a frosty or…
These are the cutest baby shoes, burp cloths, onesies and socks you have every seen. My very talented sister in law makes them. I’ve given them as gifts at baby showers and they are always a big hit. You’ve got to go check them out on her beautiful website (that my very talented brother made!)
Happy Father’s Day, Kevin! You are such a wonderful daddy to our two little boys. They are so lucky to have a father that will spend so much time playing with them and teaching them. Our boys love you so much. Porter pretty much idolizes you and Garrett always get a big smile when he sees you. I love that you make spaceships out of cardboard boxes and hunt dinosaurs tell the best pirate stories. I love that you draw funny mustaches on the boys and teach them funny jokes and songs. I love that you get more excited about their new toys then they do. Thank you for being such an incredible daddy! We love you, Kevin!
Everybody needs to see this movie. It was so touching. I loved seeing things through Emma’s perspective and learning all the hardships she had to endure. What an incredibly strong women and a great example to us all. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the entire theater. And if you go, don’t forget to stay for the credits … you’ll see:
Composer’s Assistant KEVIN LEE!!!!!
This is the movie Kevin worked on with his uncle Merrill Jensen. The music is absolutely beautiful! It was such a thrill to see my husband’s name in the credits. What a neat thing to be apart of. I am so proud of you, Kevin! Congratulations on having your name up on the silver screen for the first time!
Now that Porter is 3, we figured it was time to get rid of the binkies. We’ve been pretty good about just letting him have them at bed time, but come on, he can’t take them to college! We’ve been telling him for weeks that when he’s three there’s no more binkies. We told him that we are going to put them inside of a teddy bear. He was really excited about that. So last week we gathered up all of his binkies and took him to Build A Bear.
Here he is in the car with his binky one last time.
When we got there he was so excited. He pick out a panda bear. And he didn’t even hesitate to put his binkies inside. He wasn’t even concern when the girl sewed him up! I was surprised how easy it was.
Then Kevin helped him pick out a name for his bear. “Mr. Binky Bear” Getting rid of the binky was a breeze!
But then we got in the car to go home. Porter started crying right away and and tried to open up his bear. All the way home he was saying, “I need my binky, I need my binky!” I told him that he’s too big for his binky because he’s three now. He thought for a moment and then he cried, “I not three I two!” The rest of the day was very traumatic. Bed time was pretty hard too. I felt like the meanest mom. I just wanted to buy him another one.
A few days had past and I thought he had pretty much forgotten about his binky. Until today, just now, he walked in the room as I was typing this, with a binky in his mouth! I asked him to show me where he found it. I guess I had some of his old ones from when he what a baby that for some reason I kept in a cupboard in the kitchen (up high). He pushed a chair up to the counter and climbed on the counter to reach them. I totally forgot about those. Porter must have a binky radar or something. I told them those binkies were old and yucky and we through them in the garbage. I’m sure glad that Garrett won’t take a binky so we don’t have to go through this again!
Happy Birthday to Porter. Porter turned 3 years old yesterday! Porter wanted a pirate birthday this year. I can tell it turned out really well because I am so incredibly exhausted today. I had a lot of fun with the pirate theme. Here are some pictures from the fun party.
This is his invitation.
Kevin grilled up some hot dogs for dinner and I made them into pirate ships!
You can’t have a pirate party with out a treasure chest.
Here is my little pirate Garrett.
We had a pirate training course (like and obstacle course). First they had to hop on on foot for about 10 feet. Then they had to pick up a pretzel with a pirate hook.
Then they had to crawl through a balloon tunnel.
And last, they had to walk the plank!
After all the kids were trained to be pirates, Kevin made them each a balloon sword and they has a giant sword fight.
Then they had giant water balloon fight that I was too busy video taping that I forgot to take still pictures of. It was cute because Kevin drew 2 giant pirate ships on cardboard and they divided into two teams. Each team stood behind their pirate ship with a bucket of waterballoons (we called them canon balls) and threw them at the other team. After they were all drench from that they all jumped in the freezing cold pool. We got an infaltable pirate ship that had a squirt gun attached. Porter had so much fun on that thing. It didn’t last long though, it was too much fun to jump on and it got a big hole.
After swimming, Porter got to open up all his presents. As you can see, he had a lot of help opening his presents. He got a bunch of cool stuff! And he’s been playing with all of his new toys all day long. He loves every thing he got. Thanks everybody for all the generous gifts!
Of course we had a pirate ship birthday cake. The girl who made this cake was in tears when she dropped it off. She was so upset that it split down the middle on her drive over. I told her it still looked cool. It was like it was in a battle and got hit by a cannon ball. Everybody thought it was that way on purpose.
Porter loved the cake and that’s all that mattered.
I just thought it was time to post some cute pictures of my boys. I love this picture of Garrett. Kevin put Porter’s cowboy boots on Garrett and he thought it was so funny. And I love the mad pirate face Porter is making while playing with his pirate ship. He HAD to wear his pirate hat while he played too. These are the moments that make me LOVE being a mom!
Garrett is 6 months old today! I can’t believe how times flys. It seems to be going much faster with my second baby for some reason. Garrett adds so much to our little family. It was touch and go there for little while with him. We would tease and say that Garrett deffinatly wants to be the youngest one in our family. But now that we both have they hang of things (and I know what I can and can’t eat for him) it’s been tons of fun. Garrett LOVES Porter. Porter can get Garrett to laugh at just about anything he does. I try to do the same thing to get him to laugh and I get nothing. Last night I was walking down the stairs holding Garrett and holding Porter’s hand. Porter decided to hop down each step instead of walk. Garrett was watching Porter and laughing hysterically. It was possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen. Then I put Garrett in his high chair and Porter was hoping in front of it and Garrett thought that was even funnier. I quickly grabbed the video camera but only caught the end of it when Garrett wasn’t laughing as much. It’s still pretty cute.
